ONE REGION SHOWS HOW MODERN ATTRACTION OF SKILLED WORKERS WORKS
WHY ATTRACTING INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONALS IS CRUCIAL
Demographic change poses significant challenges to our pay-as-you-go pension system: a declining number of contributors are supporting a growing number of pension recipients. To bridge this gap and sustain our economic strength, we urgently need qualified professionals from abroad. In the Central Hesse (Mittelhessen) region alone, an estimated 44,000 additional skilled workers are needed to manage technological advancements, fill vacant positions, and ensure the stability of our social security systems. However, international talents, often referred to as expats, frequently face significant hurdles upon their arrival in Germany: bureaucratic procedures, the recognition of foreign qualifications, finding accommodation, and language barriers. This is precisely where the „Welcome to Mittelhessen“ initiative comes in
THE "WELCOME TO MITTELHESSEN" COMMUNITY PROJECT
With "Welcome to Mittelhessen," we have launched a community project supported by the Regional Management and many other regional stakeholders, including Chambers of Commerce (IHKs), universities, municipalities, and districts. The goal is to increase the region's visibility abroad and to draw the attention of expats—skilled professionals from other countries—to Mittelhessen. This is the first step in promoting the crucial and urgently needed immigration of skilled talent. As GAL Digital, we developed the platform and provided it to our partners free of charge as a pro bono contribution. The underlying technology is special in two key ways:
First, articles are generated in 63 languages, targeted at search terms that potential skilled professionals abroad might use on Google. The aim is for these articles to rank as high as possible in the search engines of their respective countries, so that people become aware of the name "Mittelhessen" for the first time.
Second, there is a question-answering component. It is based on the knowledge bases of our partners as well as publicly available web sources. Visitors can ask questions in their native language—such as how to handle specific administrative matters or what activities are available for children on weekends.

To achieve these ambitious goals and ensure scalable, 24/7 support, the project relies on an innovative technical solution from GAL Digital. The "Welcome to Mittelhessen" platform answers inquiries in over 60 languages and intelligently guides users through the processes relevant to them.
